Somehow these winters seem hotter than the actual summer and it’s impossible to step out, even for just a drink. So what better way to let steam off than to whip up some frozen cocktail recipes to get you in the winter mood.

Tamarand-Pineapple Margarita

If you have an affinity for all things sour, this tamarind-pineapple combo is definitely a winner in your book. Mix in some lime to get an extra kick!

What you’ll need:

  • 60 ml tequila
  • 44 ml tamarind nectar
  • 44 ml pineapple juice
  • 1 cup ice
  • Splash of lime juice
  • Cinnamon sugar for glass rim garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients except garnish to blender
  2. Blend till smooth
  3. Rim your margarita glass with cinnamon sugar
  4. Pour your drink in the glass and serve

Wine Slushy

Well, it’s not technically a cocktail if it has just one ingredient but we’ll count ice as the second since there’s so much of it! If you thought there was no better way of drinking wine than chilled, you were wrong – it’s in the form of a slushy!

What you’ll need:

  • 355 ml red wine

Instructions:

  1. Freeze wine in ice cub trays until firm (approx 4 hours)
  2. Put cubes in blender and blend only till crushed and slushy-like
  3. Pour into a glass and serve

Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri

Frozen daiquiris aren’t a new development – something about the rum and lime juice just works perfectly well with ice. It’s super refreshing and the added strawberries add just the right amount of berry-ness.

What you’ll need:

  • 60 ml aged rum
  • 20 ml fresh lime juice
  • 20-30 ml simple syrup or turbinado simple syrup
  • 2 ripe strawberries, quartered
  • Pinch of salt
  • Lime wheel or strawberry for garnish

Instructions:

  1. 8 hours prior to serving, mix rum, lime juice and simple syrup in a resealable container or ziploc bag and freeze for 8 hours
  2. Right before serving, drop quartered strawberries, chilled cocktail, salt and 8 icecubes into blender
  3. Pulse blender 5 times, then blend till even
  4. Add simple syrup as needed
  5. Blend briefly and serve immediately with garnish

Spazerac

An unusual twist to the classic Sazerac cocktail, the Spazerac has everything in it to be your summer favourite. The teaspoon of Absinthe that goes into it is just enough to keep you happy and not sober.

What you’ll need:

  • 74 ml rye whiskey
  • 15 ml simple syrup
  • 1 tsp absinthe
  • 7 ml lemon juice
  • 3 to 4 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
  • Lemon twist as garnish

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients including a little under 1 cup of ice
  2. Blend till smooth and pour into rocks glass
  3. Garnish and serve

Peach, Ginger and Bourbon Fizz

This soothing drink is pretty self explanatory. It’s got all its goodness from the peaches, the boozy punch with the bourbon and just the right amount of spice in its ginger. Summer is here early! (Serves 4)

What you’ll need:

  • 3 cups peeled peaches, frozen
  • 2 tbsp finely grated ginger
  • 177 ml bourbon
  • 89 ml simple syrup
  • 60 ml fresh lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Add all ingredients in a blender filled with 2 cups ice
  2. Blend till smooth and thick
  3. Pour in glasses and serve
