5. Bodega 1860
Talk about starting off strong! Bodega 1860, preserved by Marques de Riscal winery and located in Spain’s stunning Basque County this collection has 1,29,000 bottles and boasts of vintages from every year since 1862. Sadly, if you aren’t the cream of the VIP, you aren’t going to be let in here for sampling. Dream on.
4. Graycliff Hotel
Over 400 vintners in 15 countries have provided for this massive, 2,50,000 bottle-strong collection at the Graycliff Hotel. In this expansive list is one that really stands out – a 1727 Rudesheimer Apostelweing, known to be one of the most valuable and oldest wines in the world. Don’t tell me you don’t want to take at least a peak into their cellar!
3. Bern’s Steakhouse
You wouldn’t suspect a steakhouse of housing the third largest wine collection in the world (500,000 bottles), but this Florida restaurant proves you wrong. It was founded in 1956, and we’re guessing the owners have been keeping busy ever since. They also happen to have a 1947 Chateau Latour worth 30,000 USD. No biggie!
2. Cricova
Cricova’s cellars in Moldova are a magical place. Housing collections of Angela Merkel, Vladimir Putin and John Kerry and also Hermann Göring’s private collection, you’d think they’d be satisfied. But they also house several wines of historical importance such as the only bottle of ‘Jerusalem of Easter’ 1902 which is known to be priceless. Oh, also did we mention they are home to 1.3 million bottles?
1. Milestii Mici
A small village in Moldova, Milestii Mici is scenic but under it lies wine city central. Yes, their wine cellar stretches 250 kilometres, houses 2 million bottles of wine and has maze-like streets named after wine! You’d actually need a car to get from one end to another of the winery, and employees do use bikes inside. Milestii Mici holds a Guinness Book of World Records since 2005 as the largest wine collection (which was then 1.5 million). And need we mention that they hold really, really precious cargo?
