There are a lot of things that have been made famous (or infamous) because of films. Stalking, street fights, high school cliques, looking out the car window while a sad song plays, being a few of them. But one of the few things that have achieved stardom because of films are alcoholic beverages. Movies come and go but these drinks live on in our pubs and bars. This list is about the concoctions that went on to become celebrities in their own right.

Marilyn Monroe added the charm this cocktail needed in the 1959 movie, Some Like It Hot. While she, Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis stirred one up in the train, there’s nothing stopping you from walking into the nearest bar to order this iconic drink.

Cosmopolitan – Sex and the City

The drink made popular by Carrie and her friends over the years, has taken on a life of its own. Synonymous with a group of girls out on the town having a good time, the Cosmo is one of the most popular drinks of all time.

White Russian – The Big Lebowski

Probably a film that gave birth to one of the most legendary characters, The Big Lebowski also gave the world something other than The Dude – the lip-smacking White Russian. Made with Kahlua, vodka and cream, it’s absolutely delicious. No wonder the Dude’s hardly ever seen without it.

Martini – James Bond

“Shaken not stirred.” Though attributed to all the Bonds over time, this particular line was first uttered by Dr. No, the very first Bond villain. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Martini is arguably the most well-known drink there is, thanks to agent 007.

French 75 – Casablanca

They will always have Paris and we will always have French 75. The cocktail, which is a mix of champagne, gin, sugar and lemon juice, is named after a French gun dating back to WWI. Like many other things about the film, this one is a classic.

All set to binge watch/drink? We thought so.
