2020 is finally here! While others are celebrating the start of a new decade with some new resolutions, throwbacks and decade goals, the spirit industry seems to be hitting the old souls with nostalgia. A few popular US-based bars have decided to pay tribute to the classic cocktails of the 1920s by adding a 2020 touch to the popular beverages.
1. Japanknees Bees
CRUjiente Tacos is a neighbourhood taco restro bar in Arizona, US. Here, the classic gin-based Bee’s Knees has been tweaked with Japanese whisky to give you the delicious Japanknees Bees. The key ingredients of the cocktail are Suntory Toki whisky, House Hopped honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice.
2. Thyme for Arbikie
Popular for their thin-crust and cauliflower-crust pizzas, BarDough is a popular spot for some cheesy bites and flavoursome cocktails in the city of New York. The bar has reinvented the classic rum-based tiki cocktail Princess Kaiulani by adding ingredients such as Arbikie Kirsty’s gin, pineapple, thyme, lemon, celery, bitters and an eggwhite to their variation.
3. Shot In The Dark
A modern take on the classic Mint Julep, Shot In The Dark uses Old Forester bourbon , tempus fugit creme de cacao, chicory, blackstrap bitters, toasted fenugreek and mint to recreate the charm in a modern way. An invention of the Chicago-located Hubbard Inn, the cocktail is sure to take you on an old-time ride in a 2020 car!
4. LeVeque 75
The Ohio-located Keep Kitchen & Liquor Bar has whipped up a French 75-inspired LeVeque 75. This gin-based reinvention uses LeVeque-barreled Watershed gin, lemon, cane sugar and Spanish cava to create this tempting alcohol beverage. Combined with the art deco at the restro bar, sipping a LeVeque 75 proves to be an experience in itself!
5. Lean Into It
The Las Vegas restro bar Sparrow + Wolf, which is founded on the concept of reinvention, has outdone itself with its cocktail Lean Into It. A modern take on the classic Sidecar, the new cocktail is a satisfactory outcome of ingredients like Laird’s Straight Apple Brandy, Mandarine Napoleon liqueur, cinnamon, chile, maple and lemon juice.
So, if you are going to be visiting the US anytime soon, don’t forget to pay these bars a visit for your very own blast-from-the-past cocktail.
