5 Cocktail Trends Of 2019

We have seen the world fawning over turmeric and matcha in recent times. The trend caught like fire with matcha cakes and turmeric lattes all over our social media feed. Don’t be alarmed if new cocktails spam your social media this year because to add to the ‘new lit stuff’ list, we have 5 cocktail trends that are going to rule 2019

1. Low alcohol / Non-alcoholic cocktails

With more people demanding low-alcohol and non-alcoholic cocktails, the rising trend amongst bartenders is introducing new cocktails that use non-alcoholic spirits along with house-made syrups and tonics and fermented ingredients. To elevate the charm and curiosity of these cocktails, unusual garnishes such as onions are being used.

2. Non-fruit ingredients

The hottest recent trend in the bar industry is using mushrooms in cocktails. And as the demand rises, mushroom broth and tea are being used to create some unique drinks. Mushroom-infused vodka is gaining popularity all over, and to add to the list, artichoke and fenugreek are two of the many non-fruit cocktail ingredients that are on the rise.

3. Earth-friendly

There is a sustainability wave going on in the industry. Apart from using metal straws, new entrepreneurs and bartenders are practicing ways to reduce bar waste by using more of edible garnishes, introducing cocktails with less ingredients, using house-made syrups and tonics, and having an on-site beehive for drinks that require honey as an ingredient.

4. Unique presentations

With virtual life records taking over the world, there is an increasing demand for click-worthy drinks, which helps bars get free promotion on social media as well. Not only are drinks being served in hollow bamboo, glass shoes and skulls to please the people but colourful drinks are being introduced to pacify the fantasy-filled crowd this year.

Watch out for mesmerizing shades of purple, green and orange!

5. Unconventional pairings

If you thought Ranbir Kapoor and Konkana Sen were an unconventional pair in Wake Up Sid, you will be surprised to know that burgundy drinks are being paired with wild boar heart delicacies. And then there are crickets and pisco…

But if it helps you feel better, many bartenders are pairing champagne with fried chicken. Now, this is one trend you can gladly catch on!
