Cocktail-making isn’t as easy as bartenders make it look, believe me, I’ve tried my hand at it and things can go real bad, real soon. But sometimes sticking to easy instructions and minimal ingredients can result in delicious cocktails and great practice.
Take a classic daiquiri and make it even better with the El Floridita Daiquiri. First created in a Havana bar during Prohibition days, it was one of the few twists to daiquiris that actually worked. So if you’re in the mood for something simple and refreshing, this drink is for you.
What you’ll need:
- 60 ml white rum
- 22 fresh lime juice
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp maraschino liqueur
Instructions:
- Stir sugar into lime juice till it dissolves
- Combine lime juice, rum and maraschino in a cocktail shaker
- Fill with ice and shake well
- Strain into a cocktail glass and garnish with lime wheel
Whiskey, ginger ale and sparkling apple juice come together in this drink like they were always meant to be together. Even though the drink may seem extremely decadent. It’s actually surprisingly easy to make and source its ingredients. It’s a win-win!
What you’ll need:
- 30 ml Johnnie Walker Red Label
- 60 ml ginger ale
- 90 ml sparkling apple juice
- 1 lemon wedge
Instructions:
- Fill a glass with ice and pour in the whiskey
- Pour ginger ale on top and squeeze lemon wedge in, drop the shell in
- Top it off with sparkling apple juice, stir
The name itself sounds fancy, and believe us, it tastes that way too. With a combination of rye, absinthe and vermouth – this drink is to die for! And it’s so easy to make that it’ll become your go-to drink after a long day of work.
What you’ll need:
- 7 ml absinthe
- 60 ml rye whiskey
- 22 ml sweet vermouth
- 3-4 dashes of Angostura bitters
Instructions:
- In a mixing glass, swirl the absinthe so it coats the walls of the glass
- Discard excess absinthe
- Add remaining ingredients in, and fill the glass with ice
- Stir the mixture
- Strain into a chilled cocktail glass
When you say pina colada, I’m already in. But if you say a simple 4-ingredient pina colada with a difference, I’m probably going to tear up in joy. That’s the same reaction you’ll have when you make this at your home bar and have your first sip.
What you’ll need:
- 89 ml white rum
- ¼ cup coconut milk
- 3 cups frozen pineapple
- 2 cups ice
Instructions:
- Blend all ingredients in a blender till completely blended
- Add more ice if needed to make a thick but smooth consistency
If you’ve been looking for a spring-summer cocktail that refreshes you and makes you feel like you’re chilling on a sunbed at the beach, the Coconut Gin Crush is just right for you. The coconut, the gin and citrusy flavours all help in making this drink my favourite on the list!
What you’ll need:
- 60 ml gin (preferably Hendricks)
- 30 ml cream of coconut
- 22 ml fresh lime juice
- ¼ tsp orange blossom water
Instructions:
- Add three ice cubes to your cocktail shaker along with all the ingredients
- Shake well
- Pour the mixture in a glass with crushed ice
- Add more crushed ice and garnish with flowers
