We’ve always maintained that liquor is an art, and it seems like a lot of artists agree. Since Andy Warhol created special bottle art for Absolut Vodka in 1986, many artists have come to design beautiful collectible bottles that are stunning to say the least. Here are five you need to know about.
Jeff Koons for Dom Perignon
Jeff Koons may be one of the most celebrated yet controversial artists we’ve ever witnessed. His balloon art has taken the world by storm and so has his special edition bottle Venus Balloon for Dom Perignon Rose and even created a limited edition gift box. Imagine how amazing this’d look on your shelf!
Arik Levy for Hennessy
Arik Levy previously collaborated with Hennessy to create a Rock Sculpture series-inspired case and bottle. But I have never seen something as beautiful as his 2016 collab with Hennessy 8. Along with Baccarat fine crystals, he created an impressive carafe made from the raw materials that are used to creat cognac. 8 crystal rings loop around the bottle to signify the 8th generation of creators taking over. How stunning is this?! (It costs over 38,000 USD, so you might not want to like it too much)
Dr Lakra for Absolut Vodka
In 2012, Dr Lakra joined the likes of Andy Warhol to create a special edition bottle for Absolut Vodka, a company that’s paved the way for artist-alcohol collabs. The bottle is Mayan art inspired and is wrapped with the Mayan gods Balam and Kukulkan. The Mexican tattoo artist sure did make a remarkable piece of work.
Chris Dean for 1800 Tequila
Artist Chris Dean, a pop-culture, satire afficionado was asked to design a 1800 Tequila bottle in 2008, and he delivered. The front depicts a young woman working with chemicals in test tubes which we imagine is supposed to signify experimentation and a certain sense of danger.
Makoto Azuma for Perrier Jouet
Have you ever seen a prettier bottle than this, made by renowned Japanese floral artist Makoto Azuma? You have floral inspiration, Art Noveau style and the hand of a genius – this bottle couldn’t be anything but great. BRB, going to go throw my money at this.
