5 Low-Calorie Cocktails To Make During Festivities

With Christmas and the new year here, the number of parties you will be attending or hosting are going to be as high as the calories you will be consuming. Hopefully, chakhna, starters, desserts and a lot of beer and cocktails will be involved in the fun. Since it would be unfair to deprive yourself of such delicious treats, I will suggest you cut on your cocktail calories this time. And here is why –

All the syrups, juices and liquor can add 500 to 1000 calories to a cocktail. So, it makes sense to go easy on the drinks. Below are 5 low-calories cocktails you can make at home during this festive week 

1. Jury Island

You will receive some ‘red love’ this week. It will come in the form of Christmas decor, new year lights and strawberries. 

What you’ll need:

  • 45 ml strawberry crush 
  • 15 ml lime juice
  • 2-3 sliced strawberries
  • 4-6 lime rings
  • 200 ml light beer
  • 6 ice cubes 

Instructions:

  1. Add strawberry crush, beer, ice cubes and lime juice to a shaker
  2. Shake until chilled
  3. Strain and pour into a glass
  4. Add strawberries to it
  5. Garnish with lime rings and serve

2. Spiked Cherry Lemonade Slushies

Cooking a Viking meal for your friends and families? You need Spiked Cherry Lemonade Slushies on the menu! These are light, refreshing and go extremely well with Indian food.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 tsp lemonade mix
  • 90 ml cherry vodka
  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 2 cups ice

Instructions:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender
  2. Blend until your desired consistency is reached
  3. Pour into a glass and serve

3. The Bronx

A gin-based cocktail is a necessity; it is a perfect drink for early parties and small gatherings. So, if you are attending a party consisting of a close-knit and punctual social circle, have The Bronx cocktails ready.

What you’ll need:

  • 50 ml gin
  • 5 ml Rosso vermouth
  • 5 ml dry vermouth
  • 60 ml orange juice
  • 30 ml sweet and sour syrup (simple syrup + citrus juice)
  • 4 ice cubes

Instructions:

  1. Chill a glass
  2. Add all the ingredients to a shaker and shake well
  3. Strain and pour into the chilled glass
  4. Serve 

4. Kombucha Margarita

This version of the classic Margarita cocktail is low on calories but is as delicious as the original cocktail. So, take an extra serving of those cheesy bites while you sip a Kombucha Margarita.

What you’ll need:

  • 90 ml tequila
  • 90 ml triple sec
  • 90 ml fresh lime juice
  • 180 ml plain kombucha
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 lime wedge
  • 2 lime slices
  • 6 ice cubes
  • Salt for the glass rim

Instructions:

  1. Add all the ingredients, except for kombucha, to a shaker
  2. Shake until chilled
  3. Add kombucha to the shaker and stir
  4. Use a lime wedge on the glass rims, coat it with salt
  5. Strain and pour the cocktail into the glasses
  6. Serve 

5. Celery Cilantro Cocktail

This cocktail is so low on calories that it has celery in it for flavour. But surprisingly, it makes for a delicious beverage.  

What you’ll need:

  • 90 ml lemon vodka
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 2 tbsp simple syrup
  • 5 inch piece celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped cilantro
  • 2 tbsp seltzer
  • Crushed ice

Instructions:

  1. Muddle a celery and cilantro in a pitcher.
  2. Add 30 ml vodka, lime juice and simple syrup to it, and muddle again
  3. Add 60 ml vodka to it and stir well
  4. Add crushed ice to a glass
  5. Strain and pour the cocktail into the glass
  6. Serve
