5 Tiki Drinks You Need On A Vacation

Sunhats, check. Sunglasses, check. Little umbrellas? So freaking check!

A vacation or a party is incomplete without some tiki vibe, and to kickstart the tikiness, you need to have these 5 tiki drinks on your menu.

1. Zombie

Created by the father of tiki culture, Donn Beach, in 1934, this strong fruity potion received its name after Beach saw the drink’s mind-transforming effects on a friend after their third order of the same. As of today, the classic Zombie is a perfect tiki drink to order on a vacation if your bartender knows the original but complex recipe which had cinnamon syrup as a secret ingredient for the longest time.

So, go on, leave your human side back at home and live your zombie life to the fullest when vacationing this time.

Important Ingredient – Cinnamon Syrup

2. Mai Tai

A bartender needs days of practice to get this drink right, but when they do, it’s a true tiki in heaven!

With some claiming the today’s recipes to be a better experience than the original one, Mai Tai has always been a popular cocktail. So popular, it took a toll on world rum supplies in the 40s and 50s. Cheers to Mai Tai?

Important Ingredient – Orgeat Syrup

3. Painkiller

This drink is a painkiller to all sorrows of life!

Refreshing, with coconut cream reminding you of all the times you were blissful, you need to bathe in sunscreen, keep your feet up and have these painkillers coming one after the other. After a while, you will be immune to crying children, and Karens and Chads messing up the world balance.

Important Ingredient – Nutmeg

4. Singapore Sling

Created by bartender Ngiam Tong Boon to help women consume alcohol in public in Singapore, this cocktail resembles a glass of juice but with some much-deserved daaru in it. While most tiki cocktails are made with rum, Singapore Sling is a gin drink.

People who have had a sip of this majestic fruity cocktail have always ordered another, and then another again.

Main Ingredient – Gin (Rum can’t replace Gin here)

5. Pina Colada

Pineapple does not go on pizza but it definitely goes in Pina Colada, the official drink of Puerto Rico.

Easily ruined by inexperienced bartenders, the taste of the original recipe of this pineapple-coconut cocktail is the true nectar of tiki heaven. It is widely ordered at vacation destinations all over the world, and if you have not had a sip yet, you need to go out today and have one!
