We all know the struggle of getting a drink from the bar. It’s never pleasant to squeeze and evade hundreds of people and scream your lungs out just to get a round of shots for you and your friends. But there are ways to actually get bartenders to serve you faster, and most of them involve treating them well!
Get to the bar: This is definitely one of the most sure-shot ways to get your order in. Get to the front of the bar. No, don’t break the queue but if it’s an especially busy night, you could try getting to the front by snaking in diagonally so that when the person before gets done, they walk away in the opposite direction – leaving space for you to stand and order.
Don’t wave money or cards in bartenders’ faces: This should be simple to understand, it’s incredibly rude to be waving your wallet in a person’s face and will probably push you down on their list of people to serve. At the same time, keeping your cash ready for when you’re served helps a lot.
Don’t scream, whistle or frantically gesture: No one likes to be harassed at work, so why should bartenders be any different? Disrespecting them by whistling at them like you would to an animal is probably going to result in zero drinks for you for the rest of the night. Standing at the bar and looking at the bartenders works much better.
Keep your entire order in mind: Imagine this – it’s rush hour and you’ve served hundreds of people that have been asking you to be quicker and then you come up to someone and they take their own sweet time deciding what to order. Sounds horrible, doesn’t it? Well then, don’t do it to the bartenders. They’re always going to prefer people who have their orders already ready over you.
Tip well: Of course, this won’t help in getting your first round quicker but once your server knows that every other order comes with a good tip, they’ll be sure to keep you in mind when they see you next. Also, it’s the right thing to do for someone giving you drinks in the midst of utter chaos.
