The spirit publication Drinks International surveyed 127 of the most popular bars of the world to create its annual list of The World’s Best-Selling Classic Cocktails, 2019. The bars were asked to submit their 10 best selling classic cocktails, which were evaluated and ranked to create a list of the top 50 best-selling cocktails. Here are the top 5 you need to try if you haven’t
1. Old Fashioned
This whiskey-based cocktail is the most ordered classic cocktail at bars across the world. This smooth drink has managed to woo everyone with its sweet-toned but strong taste. Whether it’s the first-time drinkers or old alcohol enthusiasts, the Old Fashioned has worked its magic on all.
2. Negroni
The gin-based citrusy cocktail is a simple drink to make. Enjoyed before a meal but not limited to it, the Negroni can be a bit of an acquired taste. But as it is the second-best selling cocktail in the world, it seems like our fellow humans are living a life of great taste.
3. Whiskey Sour
One of the most sophisticated cocktails, there are no questions about the Whiskey Sour’s popularity. A simple but easy-to-mess-up recipe, a few bartenders have aced the drink. If you haven’t tried one yet, make sure you order it from an experienced bartender.
4. Daiquiri
With a somewhat tropical flavour, the Daiquiri is a light cocktail that uses rum with lemon juice and sugar to create an enjoyable drink. Many bartenders have created their own variations over the years but the beauty of a Daiquiri lies in its simplicity.
5. Manhattan
The rye whiskey-based strong cocktail is a timeless classic. The Manhattan was a drink of the socialites in the 19th century and stands to be a favourite among the business-class today. Many bartenders use bourbon every now and then but the original recipe demands 60 ml of rye whiskey in a serving.
