An Evening at Mumbai’s Tallest Bar – Boho Bar & Kitchen

It’s not often that you find an oasis in the heart of Bombay and it’s definitely rare to be taken aback by a bar/restaurant when there’s a plethora of them popping up everyday in the city. But somehow Boho Bar & Kitchen located in Goregaon managed to do all that and more.

We were already pretty hyped to be going to a bar that claimed to be Mumbai’s tallest yet and as we entered their big blue doors, the excitement increased tenfold. A towering, leaning glass wall greeted us, with no end in sight as we stared up in awe. The ambience was laidback and refreshing, the decor a pleasant change from the usual – with colours straight from our Pinterest board, adorable trees and an inviting, well-stocked bar. The only way I can describe the setting is a classy green-house, and I’m not complaining.

We sat down to begin our journey through their endless food menu and of course, what we were really there for, the cocktails. The manager, Sumeet, recommended we start with the Sesame Tandoori Paneer Tikka, Cajun Spiced Baby Potatoes and the Tequila Chicken Chimichanga. The melt-in-the-mouth tikka and the potatoes with Garlic Aioli were a vegetarian’s appetiser dream come true. But the real winner here was the Tequila Chimichanga – served to us on fire, literally! Although the tequila in the dish was evident, everything was so well-balanced that we tried to convince ourselves we didn’t need another plate.

Then came the piece-de-resistance – the cocktails – Unoriginal Sin and the Carribean Mule. Let me just say, they were generous with their liquor, and not in a bad way at all. White rum, coconut cream & basil made up the Carribean Mule and transported us straight to the beach while the Unoriginal Sin with whisky, green apple & cinnamon, was as refreshing as it could get.

As the sun set and the chandeliers turned on, making Boho one of the most romantic settings we’ve been to, we called for the mains. The first main of the evening was the Pav Bhaji platter with one being the classic, the other made of spinach (palak) & the last one being activated charcoal. You would think palak pav bhaji would be an acquired taste, but it went surprisingly well with the bhaji. The second was the Chicken Stroganoff served on a bed of Herb Pilaf which was just a burst of flavours in our mouth. The only regret my colleague and I have is not being able to eat it all.

My colleague ordered some colourful mocktails, just to check out what teetotallers had in store for them. The Kiwi Punch and the Malta Muddle, both being fruity and refreshing, but you know us – we’re suckers for the alcohol.

Lastly, as we were serenaded by a live band called Anugrahh as the sun set, Break Me – our dessert – arrived. Sumeet broke the chocolatey treat with a hammer revealing the gooey white truffle inside mixed with rich almond brownies. We couldn’t have had a better end to the experience, even if we’d tried. And as time went by and our food comas dissipated, we realised how serene the setting was (which is very rare in the city).

All in all, Boho Bar & Kitchen was a much-needed escape from the hustle and bustle of Bombay. The space and the ample light, the furniture and decor, and the entire gastronomic experience along with the service was to die for. If you do happen to be in the suburbs of Goregaon, you’ll regret not visiting Boho, that I can say with conviction. Thank us later.
