Ben Stokes Bids Adieu To Alcohol: Know Why
Ben Stokes’ Hamstring Injury
The 33-year-old cricketer was playing in the third Test against New Zealand when he suffered a tear in his left hamstring. It was in December 2024 that the cricketer decided to undergo surgery. However, it is not the first time that Ben Stokes has suffered from such an injury. During the Hundred in August, the cricketer suffered from the same injury. This resulted in him missing the Tests against Sri Lanka. The injury took such a toll on his health that he was also deemed unfit for the Pakistan Series later. The injury also reoccurred during the New Zealand Test in Hamilton.
Now, the England Test Captain has decided to quit alcohol altogether. The reason is that he is currently undergoing a hamstring injury rehabilitation. He has come out saying that he quit drinking at the start of the year, hoping that staying away from alcohol will help him heal faster. He recollects the initial shock of the injury when it happened the last time, and also remembers thinking about “changing” what he did.
Even though he’s staying away from alcohol until he recovers from the injury, he does not plan to go completely sober. He has stated in a few podcasts that he’ll never be able to remain completely sober.

Partnership With Zero Alcohol Spirits Company CleanCo
Ben Stokes recently unveiled his partnership with a zero alcohol spirits company, CleanCo. The brand has signed him up as an investor and brand partner. CleanCo takes pride in selling a variety of 0% alcohol drinks, including whisky, rum, and tequila.
This is a strategic move on the brand’s end as well as by Ben Stokes at a time when alcoholic drinks are slowly losing the chokehold they once had on consumers. More and more consumers, especially Gen Z and Millennials, are turning away from alcohol. Instead, they are quitting or analyzing their relationship with alcohol by turning towards healthier drinks like kombucha, caffeinated drinks like coffee, and fruit-based juices. The alcohol-free spirits brand, owing to Ben Stokes’ popularity, aims to expand in the United States and the United Kingdom markets.
