A beer company that was started in a small garage by two childhood friends in their early twenties has successfully launched a hotel, chartered airline, distillery and a content streaming service today! Not only this, its beers have been brewed underwater on the ocean floor, brewed at 40,000 ft. in an aircraft and also sent into space.
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you BrewDog – a Scotland-based company co-founded by James Watt and Martin Dickie in 2007. Brewing and bottling beer in a garage with no extra manpower on board, they were able to get the craft right, offering flavourful small-batch beers to the enthusiasts. Demand rose, and so did the business; in 2019, BrewDog beers were served in over 60 countries!
Last year, BrewDog decided to bring its craft to the land of India. Starting its journey from Mumbai, the beers were exported from Europe to India at a constant temperature of 4°C. The company plans to launch the brews in Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore this year.
BrewDog, which is known for using only four ingredients to brew its beers – water, malts, hops and yeast, had introduced three beer variants in India.
- Punk IPA – The very first offering, the light-golden Punk IPA is brewed from cara malts and simcoe, amarillo, chinook and cascade hops. It packs notes and aromas of caramel and tropical fruits like grapefruit, pineapple and lychee, offering a spiky bitter finish. A pint of Punk IPA is bottled at 5.6% ABV.
- Lost Lager – A dry-hopped Pilsner, Lost Lager is brewed from pils and carapils malts and magnum, spalter and German saphir hops. The beer packs citrus and stone-fruit notes, and is bottled at 4.7% ABV.
- Wild Card Wheat – A specially-brewed beer for India, Wild Card Wheat is a classic wheat beer that is brewed from oats, munich, wheat and pilsner malts, and spalter select, cascade and hallertauer taurus hops. It offers a slightly floral and classic clove and banana aroma, and is bottled at 5.6% ABV.
