Dewar’s has made a name for itself in the industry for producing the world’s best of Blended Scotch Whiskys. It has also won the highest number of awards for its creations, the number being easily over a thousand! The company has always managed to wow the enthusiasts with its blended spirits ever since its establishment in 1846.
To give its consumer-base a taste of new blended creations, Dewar’s introduced a range of cask-finished Blended Scotch Whiskys in the market. Following the success of its rum cask-finished Caribbean Smooth, the company has released a mezcal-cask finished Illegal Smooth now!
Dewar’s allows its double-aged 8 YO Scotch Whiskys to mature in ex-Illegal Mezcal casks for a month, which are monitored on a weekly basis by the distillers. Once the right balance is achieved, the spirit is bottled and made commercially available.
The company had been wanting to experiment with mezcal casks since a long time but the legislative policies governing the manufacturing of Scotch whiskys didn’t permit the implementation of the idea. With last year’s policy relaxations laid out, Dewar’s collaborated with Illegal Mezcal to source their used casks for this interesting finishing process.
One of the first experiments of this kind with regard to mezcal casks in the Scotch whisky industry, Dewar’s is earnestly anticipating consumer acceptance and feedback. The spirit packs flavourful notes of green pepper, caramel and smoke and is bottled at 40% ABV. It has been priced at US $21.99 and is all set to launch in the US market by April, 2020.
I am really interested in experiencing this unique flavour combination, what do you think?
