While the western side of the world has already progressed to single-spirit bars to explore experiential alcohol consumption and encourage single-liquor enthusiasts, the two-tier cities of India are still in the process of accepting microbreweries and wineries.
The metropolitan cities in the country have proved to be a great market for alcohol establishments and it was high time India offered a single-spirit bar to all the alcohol enthusiasts in the country. The opening of Jyran Gin Bar in Mumbai made the news recently but one should know it’s not the first single-spirit bar of India.
RumBah is a luxurious rum bar that is located at The Ritz-Carlton hotel in Bangalore. The bar has medium-sized tables and low seating to accommodate intimate gatherings. The menu features high-end rum brands like Diplomático, Kraken, Appleton Estate, Cacique Ron Anejo and Chairman’s Reserve White Label along with rum cocktails and other liquors.
The Collection is a whisky bar at Four Seasons in Bangalore. This lobby bar flaunts a curated collection of over 58 scotch and single malt whiskies, with labels like Glenfiddich Project XX, Glenfiddich IPA, Kirin Fuji-Sanroku and Amrut Peated Single Malt on its shelves. The bar offers samplers to the guests to help them decide the whisky they prefer.
Brewpark URU has a microbrewery along with a gin garden in Bangalore. The gin garden is located in a real garden, which was inspired by the ambience of Scottish distilleries. The bar offers DIY cocktails to its guests, where they can create their own cocktails by choosing the gin and tonic water from the bar collection and herbs from the botanicals grown in the garden.
The award-winning restro bar Jyran – Tandoor Dining & Lounge recently launched a gin bar at its property in Mumbai, which is the city’s first single-spirit bar. It holds over 30 varieties of gin on its shelves, offering a range of exquisite and classic cocktails to its guests. Gin brands like Le Gin de Christian Drouin, Stranger & Sons, Star Of Bombay and Cotswolds Dry Gin are available here, along with an in-house gin which is used to make some of the cocktails.
The popularity of these bars will guarantee the success of other single-spirit bars in the country. I would like to see a tequila bar next!
