You must have heard about the Kerala-based Wild Tiger Beverages when it launched its rum in 2015. Even though the rum was made available in travel retail and duty free only, the company made news for its tiger conservation initiatives.
And now, Gautom Menon, the founder of Wild Tiger has decided to launch a gin under the label. Being marketed as an Indian craft gin, Gindia is grain-distilled and made from 100% Indian botanicals in its Kerala distillery. The spirit is a blend of 23 botanicals, ranging from the Himalayan juniper to Nagpur sweet orange peel, and Darjeeling tea to Kerala nutmeg.
The botanicals are domestically-sourced, from farmers and tribes across the country. According to Menon, Gindia took two years of research and scientific approach to go into production in 2020. The time invested in the pre-production phase has certainly reaped rewards because the liquor has been picked up by eight travel retailers.
Even though the idea for Gindia was conceptualised much before their rum, Menon wanted to launch Wild Tiger Rum first to make a mark in the spirit market. This helped him create a name for the brand and create a market space for their gin.
Even with the new liquor launch, the company has upheld its social responsibilities. The gin bottle has been manufactured from recycled glass while the design label has been printed with eco-friendly inks.
This ‘Indian-style’ gin is bottled at 43% ABV and retails for US$ 39.95 (1 lt). While you sip on Gindia this weekend, watch out for Wild Tiger’s other launches – Adipoli dark rum and Wild Tiger herbal liqueur!
