Branded as the best whisky of 2019 by the renowned whisky expert Fred Minnick, Brown-Forman’s King of Kentucky has entered the decade with a reputable bang!
Minnick, who is the editor-in-chief of Bourbon+ magazine, a judge at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, a Wall Street Journal best-selling author and a well-known bourbon taster and curator, hosted a blind tasting session on YouTube Live. He tasted more than 35 spirits, out of which he declared King of Kentucky a finalist (at the least) at the first sip. He was highly impressed with how dominating the flavours were on his palate.
Brown-Forman is America’s oldest spirit company and the 15 year old King of Kentucky is their most expensive bourbon release till date. Made available only in Kentucky, an approximate of 1000 bottles were released initially, each priced at $249.99. The spirit company plans to release more of the batch at regular time intervals.
The bottle package features handwritten details that include information such as the spirit’s proof, age, warehouse location and barrel number. The bottles are also hand-signed by master distiller Chris Morris.
The bourbon’s aroma is that of caramel and toasted coconut and it has a creamy honeycomb and creme brûlée flavour that is topped off with an apple peel dryness. Highly appreciated by Minnick for its intense and complementing blend of flavours and aroma, there were no doubts about its winning status.
Well, we have a clear winner of 2019 here. Only if we could get a bottle in India… sigh
