New technology detects whisky’s age!

We never thought the day would come where technology would grow so many leaps and bounds that we’d be writing about a technology that can tell us exactly how old a whisky is.

Blockchain company Everledger and the University of Glasgow have come together to take down frauds in the whisky industry. They University’s Scottish Universities Environment Research Centre (SUERC) has a proprietary technology that will analyse the liquid in each bottle, the technology will be connected to blockchain using NFC tags. This technology along with Everledger’s tamper-proof bottle caps will help in radiocarbon dating whisky’s age and determine their origin.

Not only will this provide a sense of security to buyers who use SUERC’s new creation but also help expose fraudulent claims of age in the malt business. What great news to take into the new year, don’t you think?
