Petrus wine that returned from space tastes more floral

If you remember, recently 12 steel cylinders of Petrus and 320 Merlot and Cabernet vine canes came back from a journey in space on the International Space Station.

If this journey wasn’t exciting enough, Bordeaux researchers have made a discovery during their analysis of the wines. The Petrus wines were blind-tasted by 12 experts and they stated that the ones that had been to space tasted more floral and more aged than its earth-aged counterparts. This led researchers to believe that their journey in space may have sped up their aging process, softening the tannins allowing the floral aromatics to come out further.

The vine canes that had been to space, on the other hand, has access to limited light and water but still aged quicker than the ones on earth. It is said that the zero gravity environ and space travel may have energised the canes leading to their faster growth.

We wonder what all these discoveries mean for wine-aging in the future. What do you think?
