Road House Bluez

A dingy playground for underage kids to drink and smoke in anonymity

Long live rock! Well at least that’s the sentiment with which I walked into Road House Bluez. What followed after made the place ‘Fade to Black’ in my head. Read on…

Yes, I understand peer-pressure and the need to claim you like things you detest because of it. Take EDM for example. If it were up to me, I’d fling myself out of any moving car that blasts EDM through the roof. But I can’t. Because appearances have to be maintained; being a townie, you gotta do what you gotta do.

But I’m going to let you in on a secret – I absolutely love Classic Rock. Compared to the non-lyrical nonsense that is EDM, I love Rock so much that I’d play it at my own wedding if people didn’t think I were crazy. So imagine my secret surprise and pleasure when my friends told me about this ‘burb pub that plays Rock music and is NOT Hard Rock Café (I lost my faith in the Andheri outpost when I heard them play Gangnam Style. True Story.)

The place is called Road House Bluez and the ‘Z’ in the name was just the first disappointment. The joint is located at some Azad Nagar along the Metro line. Typical ‘burbiness, really. When will they learn that, “Hey, how do you get to this really cool place? Just follow the Metro line!” said no one ever.

Anyhoo, despite my misgivings, we entered, and were instantly confused. There seemed to be more than one level and each level seemed to cater to a different group. The ground level frankly, looked like a sports bar. To be honest, I knew finding rock lovers in the ‘burbs was too good to be true. But since beer and brawls is not what we had in mind, we settled at a table in the upper section.

If you are waiting for me to talk about the décor of this place, you’re wasting your time. I think what they started out as was a dingy American roadside pub where tattooed bikers stopped by for a meal and a stiff drink (think Turn the Page), but what happened instead was just a dingy Metro-side pub where underage kids came in to drink and smoke in anonymity, not giving two hoots about the music (think Main Sharabi). Tch Tch.

Well, ordering myself a stiff drink (or three) and pretending I was in that dingy American inn surrounded by burly bikers with the echoes of the amplifiers ringin’ in my head (I had to) was the only way I could get my money’s worth out of this place.

Sorry Road House Bluez, the music is good but that don’t impress me much. I’d rather headbang in my high-rise duplex apartment.
