Many beer enthusiasts are adding a pinch of salt to their beer these days. One might assume this to be a new practice but people have been adding salt to their beer ever since beer was invented. Germans were known to drink salted beer as well as the people of Central and South America.
But one can not just salt any beer they come across. Stouts and other dark beers are enjoyed as they are whereas wheat beers are explored further with a salted rim or a pinch of salt sprinkled over.
Companies like Rogue have introduced Just A Pinch beer to cash in on the trend. They hand-harvest Yaquina Bay sea salt to create their salty sour ale. The process requires them to collect salt from sea water and add it to the beer during the manufacturing process. Just A Pinch is best paired with foods like melon balls, Dungeness crab and key lime pie, according to the manufacturers.
Germany’s tart beer Golden Gate Gose has also gained popularity in the country. It is manufactured with San Francisco Bay sea salt.
And to add to this trend, company Twang has entered the market with the world’s first-premium beer salt. They have three beer salt flavours available for purchase, Lemon-Lime, Lime and Michelada.
Here’s hoping breweries in India take note and make salted beer a trend in the country’s drinking culture too. We can’t wait! Have you ever tried salted beer? Do share with us what you think!
