Same Place Same Time

I was excited to attend a Drunch at Same Place Same Time, Andheri West this Sunday. The food reviews were good and the place looked cozy enough to meet an old friend over some drinks and delectables.

My friend and I reached Same Place Same Time at 2:30 pm. The weather was hot outside and I really needed a drink to keep myself sane and hydrated. We entered the place to find two-person indie band – Western Express Highway playing. There were a few people sitting around and the whole place gave us a very calm and friendly vibe.

We were presented with the Drunch menu by an extremely polite staff member. There were 6 packages, with the basic package starting at Rs. 799. This package involved unlimited servings of selective alcoholic beverages – three variants of Simba Beer, and White and Red Wine Sangria. We opted for the Rs. 1299 package which included Beer, Sangrias, Salads, Appetizers, Pasta and Desserts.

The menu had very few options to offer to us but somehow it didn’t concern me as much as it should have. We ordered a pint of Simba Stout and a white wine Sangria along with a Paneer Tikka Caesar Salad and Chicken Tikka Caesar Salad.

Our drinks arrived first. Simba Stout was your standard beer but the white wine Sangria swept me off my feet. I forced my friend to taste some of it even though he does not fancy wine, and he ended up appreciating it too! I called the staff to enquire about the wine brand they use. Peeps, the holy management of Same Place Same Thing uses bottles of Fratelli Classic Chenin to give you these tasty Sangrias!

We swayed to the band singing old classic hits like Can’t Help Falling In Love With You. They were pretty good. You can follow them on Instagram

Our salads were served while I was in the middle of appreciating my glass of Sangria like a wine-starved lady. The Paneer Tikka Caesar Salad turned out to be another great order! It was fresh, with just the right amount of mayonnaise and soft pieces of paneer which did not overpower the taste of lettuce one bit. The Chicken Tikka Caesar Salad was as great as its vegetarian counterpart. Just yum!

We ordered another beer, Simba Lager, and a red wine Sangria to go with our appetizers – Jalapeno Cheese Poppers and Lebanese Chicken Kebab. The red wine Sangria was great (of course, owing to the Fratelli).

As soon as the Jalapeno Cheese Poppers were served, my friend muttered “hungry-eyes” while looking straight at me. Before I could start an argument over being fake-offended, he pushed the pan towards me.

Jalapeno Cheese Poppers

Yum! Yum! Yum! And more yum was the sauce they served it with! The poppers were super crispy from the outside, mouth-wateringly cheesy from the inside, and the spices used were just right. We liked it so much that we wanted to place another order for it. Our wise asses refrained from doing so because there were more dishes to try.

The Lebanese Chicken Kebab made my friend give out satisfied sighs with every bite. It was funny to watch him be so satisfied in life because he can be quite critical of food he hasn’t cooked himself.

He placed an order for a Simbe Wit while I called for another white wine Sangria and another vegetarian appetizer – Chilly Garlic Paneer. The paneer was soft and the flavour was very tandoori-esque. I liked the dish more with the tandoori flavours instead of the chilly garlic flavour.

Another white wine Sangria and some poor-dating-life discussions later, we ordered a Penne Ala Crema di Pomodoro pasta and a Chicken Scaloppina. The pasta was a decent eat – I would have preferred it to be more creamy. The chicken in the Chicken Scaloppina tasted great but these two dishes were not as impressive as everything we had ordered till now.

We left these two servings unfinished and called for the desserts – Batista Banana and Bazooka Brownie.

Batista Banana was a sweet fried dessert. The bananas were fried and topped with chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The Bazooka Brownie had a brownie topped with a scoop of vanilla and chocolate ice cream. The desserts were simple but delicious. The chocolate ice cream was fascinatingly creamy. We finished our desserts exactly the way children do in ice cream commercials!

Same Place Same Time, well, you can find me at the same place and at the same time next Sunday! Chota packet bada dhamaka is how I would define the drunch experience here. Such a selective menu and they have managed to nail 95% of it. Next Sunday make your way down to this watering hole for an extremely satisfying experience.
