Everyone associated with the spirit industry is very well familiar with the names of renowned bartenders Alex Kratena and Monica Berg. They have won a number of prestigious spirit awards and have been the people behind the success of award-winning bars. When they decided to partner up for their first solo project Tayēr + Elementary, everyone awaited the launch date. For those who have not had the opportunity to know about these two bar masters, here are some of their achievements.
Alex Kratena is responsible for the top cocktail bar Artesian being crowned the ‘World’s Best Bar’ four times in a row at the World’s 50 Best Bars Awards (2012-2015). He has also collected the award for ‘Best International Bartender’ at Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards in 2012 and was listed the ‘Bar Personality of the Year 2013’ by the popular Imbibe Magazine.
Monica Berg is the woman behind the top cocktail bar Himkok winning a spot in the list of ‘Best New International Cocktail Bar’ at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards in 2016 and World’s 50 Best Bars in 2016 and 2017. She was awarded the ‘Linie Honorary Award’ in 2015 and ‘Industry Improver’ award in 2017 for her contributions in the Norwegian spirit industry.
Tayēr + Elementary is the brainchild of these two impressive bar personalities. The bar is located in London and has gained quite a fellowship since its launch.
Tayēr + Elementary is divided into two parts, with Tayēr offering drinks and bar food along with a fine dining experience at the Kitchen Counter. Here, the food menu changes on a daily basis in accordance with the fresh groceries available in the area at the time. You are expected to make reservations for the dining experience while you can casually walk in for a drink and some snacks at the bar.
Elementary, on the other hand, is an all-day bar that offers seasonal alcoholic drinks, coffee and munch-worthy snacks. You are not required to make any reservations here but just walk in to enjoy a great cocktail.
Not only this, Tayēr + Elementary has a dedicated creative space Outthink for any small private gatherings you might want to organize. The space can accommodate a maximum of ten guests and offers services with the tagline – ‘anything is possible’.
The institution has its own range of spirits, beer and soft drinks, created and curated by Alex Kratena and Monica Berg in collaboration with several renowned drink producers in the spirit industry. The food menu is a product of a collaboration with TĀ TĀ Eatery’s chef Zijun Meng, offering Asian cuisine with a European twist.
With how well Tayēr + Elementary has been conceptualized and rolled out, are we expecting it to be crowned the World’s Best Bar anytime soon? I am placing all my bets on it!
