It’s November, which means No-Shave November is trending. Brewers in the United States need the smallest of reasons to brew themed craft beers, and believe it or not, there are a bunch of brews that have been dedicated to beards, making them apt for the ongoing month.
Red Brick Beard Envy
This one is quite an unusual beer, and the description of how it is brewed is as eccentric as its funky label. Brewed by Redwick Brewing Company in Georgia, its bottle says that it’s a “barley-wine ale aged in bourbon barrels”. So, you have elements of wine, beer, and whiskey all merged into what sounds like a bottle that adventurous craft beer lovers must get their hands on.
Founders Backwoods Bastard
Brewed by Founders Brewing Company in Michigan, this scotch inspired ale comes out every November. Seems like this one is dedicated to those long grey beards of wise old men because of its old school characteristics, and of course, its label. It hits you with a definitive aroma of single malt scotch, which marries itself with the aroma of bourbon oak barrels, caramel and roasted malts. It sounds so tempting, our Indian brewers should get inspired and come up with innovative stuff like this.
Rogue Beard Beer
Yeast is basically fungus, which means it can naturally occur anywhere. Believe it or not, it can also occur on beards. And one enterprising guy in Oregon USA decided to do something purposeful with the yeast that settled on his beard. As crazy as this sounds, Rogue Beard Beer is an actual beer brewed using wild yeast from brewer John Maier’s beard. Apparently, before packaged yeast was introduced, wild yeast has regularly been used by brewers. But this one sounds particularly bizarre! Well, it fits perfectly well with No-Shave November.
Fonta Flora Hop Beard
There is also an India Pale Ale that’s dedicated to beards. Todd Boera, a brewer at the Fonta Flora Brewing Company in North Carolina is popular for not only brewing a variety of beers using local agricultural elements, but is also popular for his beard. His hop beard IPA (an ode to his own beard) becomes the talk of the town every November, a mildly bitter brew with strong floral, herby and citrusy flavours.
The Bearded Lady
Why make No-shave November only about the men? That’s probably what the guys over at Good People Brewing in Alabama thought when they decided to commission this beer. This one is a wheat beer that packs in a tinge of sweet with a dash of bitter. There’s something particularly alluring about the packaging of this beer, and I cannot take my eyes of that brilliantly designed bearded lady.
