This Gin Is Bottled At 1.2% ABV!

Does the name Spencer Matthews sound familiar to you? If you do not follow British celebrity tabloids, you should know that Spencer Matthews is an English celebrity and is a distant relative of Duchess Kate Middleton! He is the brother-in-law of the Duchess’ sister Pippa Middleton, to be precise.

To celebrate parenthood and sobriety, Matthews launched his low and no-alcohol company called The Clean Liquor Company. Based in London, the company has collaborated with the Leicestershire-based Union Distillers to manufacture its first spirit – a low-ABV gin called CleanGin. Distilled under the supervision of a master distiller in small copper pot stills, CleanGin imitates the character of a London Dry gin.

Botanicals like juniper, orris root, ground cardamom, coriander seeds, angelica root, lemon zest, peppermint oil, ginger oil and cinnamon are used to pack in the flavours of peppermint and silver birch sap into the gin. The low-ABV spirit offers an aroma of petrichor and pine needles to the consumers.

The company wanted to create a gin that used traditional methods of distillation and boasted a botanical-driven taste but was a healthier option to most alcoholic spirits available in the market today. CleanGin contains over 30% less alcohol than other gin labels and packs only 4 calories per 50 ml. It contains no sugar and no sweeteners, and is bottled at a mere 1.2% ABV. This makes the gin a hangover-free alcoholic beverage option as well!

Moving forward, The Clean Liquor Company plans to launch low-alcohol rum and whisky next. A no-alcohol beverage called ‘Clean Green’ is also in the pipeline that will cater to the markets of Islamic countries where consumption of alcohol is prohibited.

CleanGin is priced at £24.99 and is available for purchase at the company’s website.
