‘Twas A Mood At The CASA BACARDÍ In Mumbai

CASA BACARDÍ was hosted by BACARDÍ on 3rd February in Mumbai

What would be the usual weekend for you? Sleeping, cleaning, maybe spending some time reading. For us at Unsobered, it’s a little different. How about attending an event hosted by BACARDÍ? Saturday evening was full of buzz for Team Unsobered. We headed to the Radio Club Pier in Colaba for the CASA BACARDÍ event that was about to begin. A sea-viewing deck with never-heard-before cocktails is not a bad way to end a long tiring week.

As we crossed the box office to enter the area, we saw everyone dressed in their best summertime clothes – true to the BACARDÍ vibe. Right off the bat, our eyes ended up on the mixology session in progress. We checked out the cards presented to the newbie mixologists which had recipes for the cocktails they were going to prepare.

The instructor began the session by explaining the whats and hows of cocktail making. The budding mixologists gave it their best shot (pun intended), but suffice to say, they messed up. After all, mixology is an art. From the reaction of those who tried these cocktails, it was clear that it’s best to leave this process to skilled ones.

As it was our first drink of the evening, we had to get it right. So we decided to choose our drinks based on a complicated yet logical algorithm. What followed this was an intense round of rocks, papers, and scissors to determine what would it be.

  1. Coco Loco

We tried a coconut-based cocktail called the ‘Coco Loco’. Now the one who chose this cocktail was the first one to try it. He was almost going to get the blame for the worst possible choice but suddenly the flavor hit. Coconut water with BACARDÍ in it. Quite simple, but beautifully tropical. First impressions matter; this cocktail didn’t disappoint either. After all, a cocktail presented in a coconut with the BACARDÍ bat on it, it’s difficult to not bat an eye at this.

  1. Mumbai Masala Mix

Now since we’re proud Mumbaikars, we had to try out the rum cocktail named after the city. A blend of  BACARDÍ Carta Blanca, Coke, some masalas, and ice topped with a guava slice, now that’s a great list of ingredients. An apt one-sentence review for this cocktail was given by one of the attendees of the event, “It’s like those classic masala sodas you get at the shop around the corner.”

By this time, all of us were pretty “happy” and the music just felt better – well, the beats by Rae Mulla, Tansane, and Shrikesh Choksi can have that effect! But the night was to get even more electrifying! Choreographer Jahnavi Sheriff walked around the floor and on the stage to pump up the crowd to be ready for the dance workshop that was next in line. We did the Row Your Boat, the Stop E Plane, and the Willie Bounce. We’ve two left feet, but it didn’t matter! We danced like there was no tomorrow, and the next day, we wished there was no today.
