It’s not that we don’t want to have wine the good old way, but new is always better (or maybe not, you will have to see that for yourself). We are all aware that there are hundreds of wine flavours and some of them are extremely capable of taking you by surprise or just making you go ‘why would you even?’. Either way, we leave it up to you to decide whether you like these unusual wine flavours or not.
Tomato Wine: Acknowledged as the world’s “very first aperitif tomato wine,” this wine is going to shake your faith. Originally from Canada, this wine was created from scratch from a secret Belgian family recipe developed over four generations ago. Wine with a story. Now that’s something we like.
Lemon Wine: Had someone told me to flavour my wine with lemon, I would have probably kicked their ass. But this aperitif wine is made from lemons and is from Menton, France, where an annual Lemon Festival is conducted. So you know how important this citrus fruit is to them.
Apple Wine: Okay, I will admit it, it’s not a big shocker. However, its aging process is quite intriguing. Finnriver Farm makes this apple wine beautifully by fermenting the fruit they grow, and fortifying it with apple brandy and aging it in oak barrels. Brandy and wine combined with the sweet flavour of apple? Take my money already.
Orange and Chocolate wine: We are no strangers to orange or chocolatey undertones in wine. But how would you like a glass of wine that mainly tastes like orange and chocolate? The Florida Orange Groves and Winery in St. Petersburg, Florida marries two fine ingredients with Cocoa Beach wine – Valencia oranges and chocolate. Exotic is the word.
Pumpkin Wine: I personally wouldn’t want to consume it because I feel that pumpkin is a highly overrated flavour but North Dakota’s Maple River Winery is quite proud of their pumpkin flavoured wine They use local pumpkins to produce their semi-sweet, cloudy white wine. When served with a slice of lemon, orange or a touch of honey, this is apparently quite the star.
