We Tasted 3 Coupette, London Cocktails By Mr. Calvados

Known as Mr. Calvados, Chris Moore made a name for himself in the bar and spirit industry through his own venture Coupette in London. After working at the award-winning Beaufort Bar at The Savoy for 5 years, he took a year-long break in 2015 to launch Coupette as a local neighbourhood bar.

Coupette gained so much popularity in 4 years for its exceptional service and cocktail menu that it went on to rank 23rd on the World’s Best Bars list of 2019. Moore created original Coupette cocktails like the Champagne Pina Colada, which won awards and holds a global reputation today.

The Mumbai outlet of Olive Bar & Kitchen hosted Mr. Calvados on the 16th of this month in an exciting bar takeover. We were quite enthused to taste cocktails from one of the very best in London and the world.

It was an honour to see Mr. Calvados at work. He seemed at home behind the bar, obliging to cocktail orders with extreme ease. We ordered a Board Room first. This Coupette classic was inspired by cigar smoke in boardrooms. Each sip had strong notes of Martell VS Cognac and a smoky aftertaste. It was a drink we had never tasted before, so unique and extremely delicious.

Next, we ordered a Blanco tequila-based Green Machine. This cocktail was as smooth as silk, using an egg white to give it a frothy texture. The taste had subtle notes of black pepper and herbs, making it a favourite amongst us.

The last order for the evening was the world-famous award-winning Coupette original cocktail Champagne Pina Colada. One sip and we knew exactly why this cocktail won awards. Each sip was heavenly – the notes of pineapple and coconut, the smoothness of GH Mumm Champagne and the white rum-blend fit perfectly with each other. Every single ingredient complemented the other. This cocktail was a magical creation and definitely ended our night on a delicious note!

We tasted three Coupette cocktails out of the six on the menu, and each of the ordered cocktails was worth every rupee. If you are fascinated by the world of cocktails, you either need to fly to London to experience the excellence of Coupette in person or wait for Mr. Calvados to grace Indian bars again (and we hope that’s very soon).
