The origin of snake wine dates back to around 1046-771 BC in the Western Zhou dynasty. In the medicine culture of the Chinese, snakes are believed to have medicinal properties hence the drink was used for primarily treatment.

One of the many methods that crafters use to prepare snake wine is putting a venomous snake in a jar and marinating it for months. The intoxicated drink is created with the infused skin and venom of the snake.
