West Side Brewing’s ‘Braille Ale’ supports the visually impaired

It’s not often that you get to applaud a brewery for their inclusivity and keeping people with disabilities in mind but West Side Brewing deserves a standing ovation. The Ohio-based brewery (working along with a local organisation) has not only launched a beer with Braille on its label but a part of the proceeds from this Braille Ale will go to the Cincinnati Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired (CABVI).

The Braille Ale is a raspberry gose, the label for which allows the vusually impaired to know what they are buying. Braille on the label of beers has also been practiced by many Japanese brewers who stamp the word ‘beer’ on the can to differentiate it from sodas.

Although it wasn’t easy for West Side Brewing to create the beer or find equipment from Germany to make the braille stamping possible – we’re very glad they saw this idea all the way through. We hope this is soon going to become a norm in the liquor industry!
