Witlinger Beer: Brewed In The UK, Sold In India

The Indian beer market is flourishing with a huge collection of craft beers currently. There is hardly a beer enthusiast in the country who has not chugged a craft beer in the last 5 years. But before these wondrous times, most of us didn’t understand what craft meant in terms of the brewed beverage.

I can safely state that the man responsible for introducing craft beers to the Indian market is the one and only Anuj Kushwah – founder of the Delhi-based company Kaama Impex, which is behind the launch of India’s first craft beer ever.

Kushwah brought Witlinger beer to India! Starting with a keg distribution model in 2014, he tested the Indian market for almost a year. The beer, which is imported from the UK, received positive feedback and Kishwah decided to start bottling the brew in the country.

Witlinger has two variants in the market today – Witlinger Wheat Ale and Witlinger Premium Lager. You can find the beers on tap at top bars like The Beer Cafe, Lord of the Drinks and Townhouse, and at alcohol retail outlets in metropolitan cities.

Witlinger Wheat Ale is a crisp Belgian-style wheat beer that is brewed from wheat malt and traditional ale yeast. The cloudy beer is infused with crushed coriander seeds and sweet orange peels, packing notes of orange zest and spices as well as a fruity aroma.

Witlinger Premium Lager is brewed from 100% lager malt and lager yeast. The beer uses UK-sourced hops to offer a smooth finish, while packing citrus notes and hints of lemongrass.

Both the variants are bottled at 4.5% ABV. The ingredients used in the brewing process are sourced from around the world, making sure the brand maintains its brew’s quality as per international standards.

You can purchase a pint of the beer for INR 150, less or more depending upon its import status and country’s state taxes.

Planning on buying Witlinger beer the next time you go out? Great, because I am going to as well!
