Cask Trade which was founded in 2018 to provide an open and honest market platform to whiskey enthusiasts – collectors, sellers and bottlers – will be hosting an online whisky barrel auction from Jan 22 to Feb 2, 2020. The auction will be the first of its kind, where private owners can sell their whisky barrel collections to independent buyers, collectors, bottlers and investors online.
The live auction will display 24 casks, which will include whiskies like Aberfeldy 2005, Bruichladdich Chateau Margaux, Aberlour 1990 and Springbank 1995. The whisky barrels will be health-checked before they are made available for the auction and a whisky-tasting event will be organised where a 700 ml bottle of each whiskey will be drawn out of the barrels for the prospective bidders to taste on Jan 15. This will help the buyers determine the whisky they want to bid on at the auction.
The whisky-tasting will be hosted in the London office of Cask Trade at Regent Street. This will not be the first and only online whisky barrel auction. Cask trade plans to host the event four times a year, with the next auction planned for the month of April.
