Would You Buy This Underwater Wine?

The spirit industry is ever-evolving, never ceasing to intrigue and amaze the enthusiasts. Manufacturers and producers are experimenting with unique concepts to offer limited-editions to the extremely-aware but picky market. And on such a note, a Spanish wine production company has introduced underwater-aged wines to offer an exceptional experience to the wine collectors and drinkers.

Crusoe Treasure has been in the news for creating an artificial reef in the Caribbean Sea, which acts like the company’s personal underwater winery. Eight years of research went into the implementation of this unique idea.

Today, Borja Saracho, the founder of the company visits the underwater winery on a daily basis to examine the thousands of wine bottles submerged in the sea. Placed 65 feet below land, the wine bottles are aged from six to eighteen months.

To place the bottles underwater, sealed crates with corked wine bottles are lowered into the sea with the help of a small crane. Wine tourism allows tourists from across the globe to accompany the boat crew on one of these expeditions.

Once the wines have aged, the bottles are retrieved and sold with the touch and marks of seaweed intact. Crusoe Treasure has an established market in Switzerland, Belgium, Mexico, Germany, Scandinavia, China, Japan and Taiwan, with the US being targeted next.

The wine label has introduced three variants of their underwater wines – Sea Soul, Sea Passion and Sea Legend. The variants hold different underwater wines under them. You can reserve the wines here to have one in your personal cellar.
