5 Cocktails For The Monsoon

There was a time when I would look out the car window during rains and pretend to be sad about my imaginary life crisis. Now when it rains, I make myself a drink and sit by the window of my living room, ignoring and avoiding my so-real quarter-life crisis.

And if you do the same, I recommend you to ignore your issues in style. Make cocktails instead of simple pegs. Here are 5 cocktails you should be making this monsoon season

1. Purple Rain

Hasn’t your mind ever wandered off to imagine a world of different colours? Sun could be green and trees could be yellow or vodka could be brown and the rain could be purple. Well, maybe on a different planet…

To support your life on this Earth, I have Purple Rain for you. All this drink needs is some vodka, red grapes, green apple, cinnamon syrup and lime juice. Just muddle the fruits and add all of the other ingredients in the shaker. Shake, strain and serve.

The world might start to change colours depending upon how much vodka you have poured.

2. Pink Monsoon

Since I have planted the idea of a weirdly colourful world in your mind, let me continue on that. Pink Monsoons, where all the trees would change their colour from green to pink when touched by water! Imagine a world where the planet looked pink for the 3 months of monsoon.

To help you visualize better, have a Pink Monsoon cocktail. Some gin, cranberry juice, soda, mint leaves and lime juice make this pink wonder a boozy delight! Pour some gin in a glass, add lime juice, and equal parts of cranberry juice and soda, and stir. Garnish with mint leaves to create your totemYou need to know what’s real when you are done with your drink.

3. Hibiscus Ginger Palomas

Switch from ginger tea to ginger cocktails this monsoon!

To make this pink tangy cousin of the Margarita, you need tequila, pink grapefruit juice, lime juice and hibiscus ginger syrup. Now, this cocktail requires you to make one of the ingredients – the hibiscus ginger syrup. Easy to make, you will find the recipe here.

Considering how you might be stuck at home this monsoon, I am hoping you will Instagram your boozy work to us.

4. Hot Toddy

Just so you know, this cocktail does not use our desi toddy at all. But to keep your spirits up, I am honoured to tell you it’s a bourbon based cocktail.

All you need to do is add some hot water, honey and lemon juice to your whiskey, stir it well and use a cinnamon stick as a garnish, Now, you have a cocktail that works well on your mind and any nasty flues you might be harbouring.

5. Lavender Whiskey Sour

Lavender is rich in anti-stress properties. We kid you not. The idea is to destress your monsoon with some cozy whiskey and magical lavender.

All you need is whiskey, honey syrup, lemon juice, orange bitter and an egg white! You need to mix everything, shake well, and strain and pour the magical potion over a few ice cubes. Garnish with dried lavender flowers if you can get your hands on some by any chance.
