If you thought wine was made only with grapes, we are here to tell you that you are grapely wrong!
Even though wine and grapes are considered synonymous to each other by wine lovers, Fruzzante`, a brewery in Bordi, Maharashtra has given an interesting twist to the beverage by manufacturing wine from chikoo (sapodilla).
Chikoo? Yes, you read that right.
Started in 2010 by Priyanka Save & Nagesh Pai after realizing that chikoos could very well be fermented, their initial idea was to process the fruit in a package-able form, they proceeded to brew a cider-style beverage.
Apart from chikoo cider wine, Fruzzante` has released other variants in the vegan beverage range, which include Pineapple, Mango, and Spice Garden (cinnamon, ginger and honey with chikoo). It also has a sparkling white wine made from starfruit blended with grapes, under the brand name JIWA and a premium honey dessert wine under the brand name ARKA.
Fruzzante is the only fruit-based non-grape bottled product in the cider-style beverage category which is commercially available currently. Its products are vegan and gluten-free, making it a healthy choice for wine lovers.
If you’re in a mood to visit their brewery, you can book a tour via their winery resort ‘Hill Zill’ in Bordi, which is a short distance from Dahanu.
Things don’t seem to be stalling here for Fruzzante` as the brand wishes to diversify their product line further. If you’re a fruit and wine lover, you might want to update your ‘google alerts’ list.
