Caipirinha Vs Caipiroska: What’s the difference?

If you like to mix and match your cocktails, then we’ve got much more than the usual martinis, daiquiris and margaritas. After all, variety is the spice of life. So unless you’ve tried everything, you can’t really say you’ve tried it all.

With everything being so modernized, it’s no surprise to see two new-age cocktails climbing up the popularity charts around the globe.

We’re here to tell you about the Caipirinha and the Caipiroska, the deadly duo that’s been setting the cocktail world on fire.

We first head to Brazil – the land of samba and football, to bring you the country’s national drink, the Caipirinha.

With beaches aplenty, this super cool looking concoction of ice, lime and
cachaça sure cools down everyone as they bask in the sunshine.

And if you’re wondering what in the world is Cachaça? Well, the spirit is a native liquor produced in Brazil by fermenting sugarcane juice.

It takes a lot of good things to make one great drink and the Caipirinha is no different.

What’s used here is Lime, that’s known for its medicinal qualities and goes perfectly well with the cachaça. (a slightly harsh feel, makes it bear a close resemblance to Mexico’s tequila) Prepare yourself for a cocktail that offers a tangy taste, perfect for some summer sipping.

Moving on to the other drink, the Caipiroska.

The thing about cachaca is that besides Brazil, it isn’t easily available in foreign lands.

This eventually led to one country’s loss, becoming another nation’s gain.

Bartenders and cocktail drinkers around the country, now prefer to put its Russian-sounding vodka-based cousin – the Caipiroska, as their go-to cocktail.

The basic difference between the two drinks is that we substitute the cachaça in a Caipirinha with vodka, and surprise surprise, you now have a Caipiroska.

The fun and madness doesn’t end just here. If you’re looking for variation, you’ve come to the right place.

Should you add white rum, you end up sipping a Caipirissima. On the other hand, if you add some fruit, for flavour, that’ll give you a Caipifruta.

Both the Caipirinha as well as the Caipiroska, are immensely popular at bars for being a short and more palatable drink.

Try your hand at any one of the two. You won’t be left disappointed.

Drink up and Happy Sipping!!!
