Eddies Bistro

Okay so we had heard enough and more about this ‘cute’ little villa-like Bistro in Bandra that is very hospitable towards its customers. Tucked in a cozy little Pali Hill corner, it’s called ‘Eddies’, and the Unsobered Squad finally decided to check out what the fuss was all about. I mean, how good can it really be? Psst… We set very high standards. Also, such a Bandra-esque name!

Snooty Bandra feels

We knocked Eddies’ door on a Wednesday evening after a long day, which meant that the place was under pressure to blow our mid-week miseries away. Unfair on Eddie? Why? Isn’t he supposed to be a people pleaser? We were about to find out…

This place does give the impression of an independent villa from the outside. The wooden flooring and wall frames also contribute to making this establishment feel like you’re entering a house party. But once you’re settled on your table and ready to place your order, it’s back to feeling like being at any other café. Now, we aren’t that naïve to be complaining about it. We just wanted some good food and booze at the end of the day.

We began with a strip of mini lamb burgers. Living up to its ‘mini’ tag, these babies look cute and can be popped in a jiffy like tablets. You’d be left feeling pinched about how quickly those 380 bucks flew out of your wallet and into Eddie’s pocket. But hey, those are some of the finest lamb burgers you will ever have.

Right then, down to business and it was cocktail time. A very tempting page on that menu card lists a series of interestingly named ‘Bourbon Cocktails’, with a heads-up indirectly conveying that Eddie’s a Jim Beam fan, because he uses only Jim Beam for these cocktails.

Keeping it simple then, we called for a Basil Citrus and a Cosmopolitan, priced at Rs 400 and Rs 350 respectively. The place doesn’t try to innovate with the presentation of their cocktails, so it’s quite the usual drill then, as your wallet loses weight whilst you gain some in the process. At this point, you’re not convinced if the trade-off is fair.

Rs 450 for a Grilled Chicken ensured that the hole in your pocket was almost a perfect circle; but the quantity of that deliciously succulent chicken, and that near perfect sauce just worked out like a long-lasting successful marriage.

It’s when you exit the back of the café to go to a washroom that Eddies reinforces the villa theme, with a colorfully decorated backyard of sorts doubling up as outdoor seating to accommodate some more guests. Well played!

This is a house party sans a dance floor, but it’s the kind of house party that’s peacefully pleasing on a hot Wednesday evening. Eddie, you’re a snooty little prick, but we’ve got to admit that you know how to entertain your visitors.
