Diageo India, a prominent player in the beverage alcohol industry, recently received big accolades at the Icons of Whisky India Awards 2026. Diageo's brand Godawan 173 was honored as ‘Brand Innovator of the Year,’ while The Good Craft Co. secured the title of ‘Visitor Attraction of the Year.’ These awards, presented by Whisky Magazine, highlight excellence within the whisky sector, recognizing outstanding leadership, creativity, craftsmanship, and customer experiences, with selections made at both global and local levels.
The Icons of Whisky Awards are highly regarded in the industry, shining a light on the people, experiences, and companies that contribute to the whisky landscape. Unlike other awards focused on products, these specifically celebrate the efforts that shape the industry - from innovative branding to engaging visitor experiences and positive community impact.
Godawan 173 is one of Diageo's most ambitious creations. With only 173 bottles available, it was crafted to celebrate the increase in the critically endangered Great Indian Bustard population, rising from 100 to 173. This whisky is uniquely finished in heritage Asha liqueur Sal Wood casks, introducing a new flavor profile to Indian single malts.
Each bottle is distinct and designed with inspiration from Jaipur Blue Pottery, merging Indian artistry, environmental conservation, and whisky innovation. Recognized as ‘Innovative Brand of the Year,’ it showcases a commitment to both product excellence and storytelling.

Meanwhile, The Good Craft Co., awarded ‘Best Visitor Attraction of the Year,’ has emerged as a pioneering platform for Indian craft spirits since its launch in September 2024.
It aims to connect makers with consumers through immersive experiences focused on education and exploration. The Flavour Lab in Bengaluru offers sessions covering topics like sustainability and India’s rich liquid heritage, fostering a vibrant community that celebrates the diversity of Indian craft spirits.
On this, Vikram Damodaran, Chief Innovation Officer, Diageo India, said, “Godawan 173 has been a deeply personal journey for us, from working with local communities in Rajasthan to building a whisky that carries both craft and conservation at its core.” With The Good Craft Co., we wanted to create a space where that same spirit of discovery and pride in Indian craft could come alive for people. To see both recognised on a global stage like the Icons of Whisky Awards is incredibly meaningful for all of us who’ve been part of building this from the ground up."
