Grover La Reserve Red Wine: Gift From Karnataka

Grover La Reserve Red Wine is a premium Indian red wine, which is famous for its blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes cultivated in the Nashik Valley. Grover La Reserve has gained both national and international acclaim, earning awards such as the IWSC (International Wine and Spirits Competition) Bronze. It is considered one of Karnataka's most popular and prestigious wines and is widely available across India.

Grover La Reserve Red Wine: Background

Grover La Reserve Red Wine has a unique place in the history of wine in India. It is known as the country’s first reserve wine and was launched by Grover Vineyards in 1998. The story begins with a visionary, Kanwal Grover, during the late 1980s and early 1990s, who visited France and was inspired to produce high-quality wines in India.

He also collaborated with Michel Rolland, a renowned French winemaker, for the development of La Reserve. Michel’s expertise helped Kanwal by contributing both French winemaking techniques and a Bordeaux-inspired style.

The vineyards were first established in Nandi Hills near Bangalore, and later were expanded to Maharashtra’s Nashik. This was after the company was merged with Vallee de Vin in 2012 to form Grover Zampa Vineyards.

It has gained both national and international acclaim, including one where noted wine expert Steven Spurrier tagged this wine as one of the Best New World wines in 2005. Grover La Reserve Red Wine is recognized for helping elevate Indian wines on the global stage.

Grover La Reserve Red Wine Taste and Texture

This premium Indian red wine has a very deep ruby colour, which itself brings in an inviting visual appeal. La Reserve is crafted as a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, matured in French oak barrels. It offers complex aromas which include cassis, cherry, and ripe blackberry with subtle hints of cedar, oak, rose, and vanilla. These subtle hints reflect its barrel maturation.

On the palate, this red wine is layered and rich, offering flavors of dark fruits such as plum and blackberry. It is intertwined with notes of spices, chocolates, and subtle hints of tobacco and vanilla. The texture of this wine is very creamy and velvety with well-integrated, smooth tannins that are the reason behind its sophisticated and approachable mouthfeel.

Shiraz offers spiciness and depth, while the Cabernet Sauvignon provides balance and structure to the wine. It offers a long, smooth, and lingering finish, which leaves a very satisfying impression of gentle oak and dark fruit.

Overall, Grover La Reserve Red Wine is known for its luxurious complexity, smooth tannins, balanced taste, and harmonious oak integration. This makes it more enjoyable when paired with hard cheeses, hearty stews, and also meat, which is perfectly grilled.
