Kerala Approves Liquor Outlets At 74 Tourist Destinations

Liquor Outlets

The Kerala government has made a noteworthy move to enhance tourism by issuing a gazette notification that recognizes 74 locations across around 100 towns and villages as official tourist destinations by the Kerala Abkari Shops Disposal Rules, 2002. This change permits hotels rated two stars and above to apply for licenses to operate beer and wine parlours, following the guidelines of the Foreign Liquor Rules, 1953, and extends bar operating hours until midnight in these newly designated areas.

In the past, Kerala had just 14 officially recognized tourist centers. This expansion creates significant opportunities for the state’s vibrant hospitality and tourism industry. The newly identified destinations feature picturesque hill stations, serene backwaters, pristine beaches, culturally rich towns, and breathtaking eco-tourism spots, providing visitors with even more compelling reasons to explore God’s Own Country!

If you’re curious about how this impacts travelers, it’s worth noting that more hotels and restaurants can now legally serve beer and wine, contributing to a lively nightlife atmosphere. The extension of bar hours until midnight provides tourists with a more relaxed and immersive experience.

As a result, places like Ponmudi, Vagamon, Ashtamudi, Kappad Beach, Fort Kochi, Munroe Island, Muziris, Athirappilly, and Silent Valley are poised to benefit, further establishing Kerala as a premier travel destination.
