Khar Social

Forced ‘Social’ising

Breaking bread with people you love is an age old concept. But Social takes this ‘Community’ business to another level. Read on…

We waited 4 months to visit Khar Social. Correction: I made my friends wait 4 months to visit Khar Social. No way in hell was I going to visit a place THAT crowded right in the beginning.

Cut to four months later, we were standing in a slow moving queue outside Khar Social. Yup, four months later, still no different from day one. Guess that says good things about any place but seriously Social, you need some sort of crowd control. If nothing else, at least follow the legal drinking age and stop letting underage kids in for chrissake.

Anyhoo, guess what? We made it! We finally had a table at the hard-to-get-into Khar Social. I honestly couldn’t care where we had a table; I was just looking forward to a good, long, boozy night filled with gossip and laughter.
Until, of course I saw that we had been given one of the community tables.

Here’s a little back story about me. I have nightmares about only two things ever – moving to the ‘burbs and community tables. My face when I saw where we were expected to sit all evening was apparently so priceless that a friend actually clicked a picture.

After continuous pleading, placating and finally pushing, my friends had me seated, with eight other strangers, I must add. I tried putting the fact aside that I was rubbing elbows with a complete (and not to mention extremely loud) stranger and tried to enjoy myself. We ordered their notorious electric LIIT whose only purpose I guess was to make us realize that classic is known as such for a reason. We also called for appetizers which I do not remember because the server mixed up our order with our, uh, our neighbors more than once. So, after the second time, I stopped caring TBH.

My discomfort was so apparent that a kindly pal of mine offered to trade places. I readily agreed and moved between two of my friends, the night seeming infinitely better all of a sudden. Turns out, my friend felt the same way; he immediately struck up a conversation with my ex-neighbor and soon they were swapping cards.

That’s when it hit me. This right here, this tiny exchange is what this place was all about. Networking is what makes Social tick.

Well played Social; but I’d like to keep my social life separate from work, thank you very much.

Where? Khar, Krishna Nagar (basically opposite Khar Hoppipola)
