Free daaru is enough to tempt me anywhere, whether its a bar, or a family wedding I don’t want to attend.
Oi – Kitchen and Bar had a ladies night this Wednesday, like they do every week. We reached a little before 9 pm and found the place to be quite deserted for a ladies night. But this also meant I could scout the area and try to observe the place for this article.
The first thing I noticed was that there were no men apart from the staff, and also that the ambience was cozy enough for some wondrous dinner dates.
The free drinks on the menu were white and red wine sangria, caipiroska and an old fashioned.
I started with a white wine sangria because the few ladies around me didn’t have one in front of them. I was handed a wine glass with premixed wine poured on apple bits. As I took the first sip, I knew I could spend the whole night sipping on this particular drink but I was instructed to try out all the complimentary drinks.
Next, I asked for an old fashioned which was great. It had the perfect sweet tone set against the husky whiskey but I liked my colleague’s version of it more. She requested the bartender to squeeze a bit of lemon in her drink, and it tasted so much better!
But this also led to me concluding I had become a wine lady for the night.
As two friendly ladies joined our table, conversations lead to some Mumbai and HR banter, my colleague cracking an HR joke that wasn’t funny, us guessing their age which was risky, and us announcing our recent break-ups to two people we had just met.
But we did something right because they offered us their food. To add to the kindness, we ordered volcano fries. It could have been crispier but I am not going to take it to heart because – free drinks!
It was time for my third or fourth drink which was a caipiroska.
I am not sure when I downed this one but I remember the chill aftertaste of strong and soothing vodka. It must have been really good because it was my colleague’s drink for the night.
The floor had started to warm up with people pouring in around 10:30 pm. We were lucky to arrive early and secure a table because no one else could find a place to sit after a while. It didn’t seem like much of a hassle as DJ Prasad played some tracks to bring us to our feet.
The best part about the party zone? The staff encouraged everyone to dance with a friendly smile and amazing moves of their own.
It was time to taste the red wine sangria.
It tasted like a drink I wish I had been sipping on when I found out my ex was getting married. The rusty sweet taste made me feel like a classy lady with an imaginary cigar between my fingers and a poodle lying beneath my chair. I sipped at first but gulped down the drink after 20 seconds of hurried pretence.
Moving on, in all ways, the Prawn Crackers and Brazilian Cheese Bread were ordered. It was decided that these crackers were the greatest crackers ever ordered in the history of cracker orders. The Brazilian Cheese Bread reminded me of home-made healthier version of punugulus I tried in Hyderabad. If you do not know what that is, I can explain this order by saying it is mildly flavoured and just melts in your mouth. The dish was too fancy for my taste but is something I would order again after my fourth drink.
Also, we met someone who acted in a movie I like. When his drunk friends told the drunk us about his profession and role in the movie, we refused to believe it. But a quick google search this morning tells us we had a lot to drink yesterday.
Overall, I would have liked more men to be present or maybe I am still angry from seeing all couples just hugging it out after midnight. Seriously, it felt like none of the four couples around my table had ever hugged before this outing. Hmm. Apna time aega?
But, if you want a decent place to hang out with your girlfriends to curb the mid-week blues, you should visit Oi – Kitchen and Bar and drink to your heart’s content. Do reach before 10 pm to grab a table!
