The Cult

After I spent my weekend recovering from a bad case of the flu, I was more than excited to hit a bar for another ladies night. My colleague and I decided to visit The Cult this time.

It is situated on the first floor of the Peninsula Grand Hotel in Sakinaka, surrounded by quite a few other bars and clubs around. Some research showed this event to be a collaboration between The Cult and MTV Beats. Way to set the party mood, huh?

We reached around 9:15 pm, battling rain and traffic, dodging spam calls and discussing our mothers’ ‘beta shaadi kar lo’ routines, but it looked as if we had reached super early. There were hardly any people around.

We were given 4 coupons each for this event, which resulted in us quickly calculating our expense estimate. (Month end/start woes.)

After three failed attempts at making a cool boomerang clip, we entered The Cult.

The first four things I noticed in the first 15 minutes – there were two small groups of people sitting at one side of this grand floor space, the staff was patiently waiting to attend, the bar was empty and no ladies seemed to be walking in. Maybe the night was to start late and end waaay later?

We went to the bar to enquire about the free drinks for the night, which happened to be LIITs, Kamikaze shots, and red and white wine Sangrias. Two coupons were worth a LIIT while you could get the other three drinks for one coupon each.

We started with a red wine Sangria and a LIIT.

Ladies, listen up! The Cult justifies your two coupons for a LIIT. It was a strong drink, so strong that each sip seemed to be stronger than the last. But here’s a tip – Ask the bartender to be light on ice.

On the other hand, the red wine Sangria was decent. I have tasted much better versions of it at other places. So, if you skip this drink, you won’t be missing out on much.

It was 10 pm and only a group of four had walked in. The DJ rolled out some tracks and lights were switched on to bring in the dance vibe but the few people present didn’t seem to be in the mood.

To pamper her tastebuds, my colleague ordered a Farmhouse Special pizza (INR 375).

Farmhouse Special Pizza

The first bite had us conclude it looked better than it tasted. The taste was bland and the broccoli was a bit undercooked. We used seasonings to our stomach’s content but it did nothing to help. We had to ask for ketchup to add some sort of flavour to it.

I went to the bar to pick up two Kamikaze shots and a white wine Sangria. It was such a disappointment when I found a little dead insect in my shot…

The shot was replaced while we ordered a Farfelle Pasta (INR 375).

Farfelle Pasta

The shots were pretty decent and you should definitely order a few but the white wine Sangria tasted like… the closest I can compare it to is Listerine mouthwash.

Our pasta arrived and we hoped for it to be better than the pizza. One bite, and my colleague and I asked for seasonings at the same time. It tasted extremely bland for a white sauce pasta but the creamy sauce held it together for us by a thread.

It was 10:50 pm and no one but two people had walked in all this while. There was no chance a party was happening here. We called for the cheque and left for our places.

Overall, the drinks were better than the food and the place could be a decent visit if you are to go with a big group of friends. But if you are looking to attend ladies night at The Cult, skip it. Do check it out on the weekends though, I hear it’s really fun and the party goes on till 3 am in the night!
