After a miserably failed attempt to get into the fancy-schmancy ‘The Good Wife’, we were looking out for places to chill. No other place around, except for The Irish House served alcohol to drown our heartbreak (not cool Kurla, not cool). We walked in feeling drained, but by the time we were assigned a table, we were beaming with joy. Why you ask? ‘One on One’ deal on cocktails, and beer pints for 95 rupees. *Woo hoo!*
Placed inside an obnoxiously spacious Phoenix Market City in Kurla, you can almost miss this place. But now that we have been to a dozen of these across the city, we can sense if an outlet of The Irish House is around us.
On a Monday evening, this place was practically empty. We found a comfortable corner, dumped our bags in an entirely different counter (because, why the fuck not? So much space), and crossed our legs. The waiter was fast as flash since there was barely anyone else to attend to.
Now that we only had to pay half the price, we were at bloody ease. Two Mojitos and Moulin Rouge Martinis were called for. The happiest moment of our month happened when we saw a table full of fancy drinks. So instagrammable, that we trembled in sheer satisfaction.
The Moulin Rouge Martinis (445) would have been so much better if they weren’t too minty. We couldn’t taste vodka, or the pomegranate fruit, or even the citric acid (now that’s a big bummer). It tasted like basil, just plain basil. We love tulsi (sanskaar level = 1000 and hello there Miss Smriti Irani), but where’s the vodka? Yes, we only paid half the price, but bro, why does it feel like chutney?
The Gingered Screwdriver (325) screwed us further. It tasted like canned fruit juice and not even of a good brand. However, we are grateful for the Galangal, because we read it as ‘Gangaajal’ and laughed our asses off for half an hour (we might have been slightly buzzed). Kingfisher pints worth 95 rupees + taxes saved the night, as it took us less than 20 minutes to annihilate 3 pints each.
Cursing the system that lacked free peanuts, we called for a Fries Bouquet (280 + taxes) and Skewed Cottage Cheese (325+ taxes for Paneer Tikka in disguise) as starters. Also, we were reminded by the waiters at least three times that the ‘Happy Hours’ were coming to an end. Now that we look back at it, we don’t blame them as we might have looked slightly homeless.
This Irish looked like any other Irish with the pointless quotes on the walls, making very little sense. Maybe, they should start pouring more liquor into their cocktails.
