Let me ask you something: What comes to your mind when we say Tamil Nadu? Rajinikanth? “Enna Poda Rascala”? A state that doesn’t speak Hindi? We aren’t here to change any of it; we are here to say that Tamil Nadu is more than that, especially for us drinkers. We believe that everyone who loves alcohol should visit TN at least once and we will give you not one, but five reasons. So ‘Vanakkam’ to the land of surprises!
The Golden Drink: All those who thrive on Kingfisher Ultra Max should know that they are missing out on some amazing stuff. We can’t even begin to describe the feeling of sipping on Golden Eagle beer (from India’s oldest brewery Mohan Meakin). A hit till the 80’s across the country, today it’s a treasure you can find in bars only in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. Also, beer is beer in Tamil, so hurray!
Eathakallu (Toddy): You may or may not have heard of silver palm trees. Super skilled toddy tappers climb these, patiently tie an earthen pot to each of the palm tops, and then store the sap in bigger pots buried in mud for fermentation. It’s super sweet at the start, and gets slightly bitter eventually as it ferments. Intriguing much?
Cuisine: You haven’t tasted flavour bombs until you have eaten at a local, tiny, hut-like eatery in Tamil Nadu. From Kanyakumari to Kodambakkam, every plate of food they serve is diverse, wholesome and awesome. No need to say they are spicy as hell, but bro, their ‘kothuporatta’ (a mix of egg/meat and a wheat based bread). Have no shame in writing down the name, because you probably can’t pronounce them. Also ‘Chettinad Chicken’ and Scotch are soulmates.
Tasmac – The True Hero: The government run alcohol stores, a.k.a Tasmac, sell super cheap liquor. So, take a car with plenty of backspace and bring some real daaru to your friends. Oh, totally forgot to mention that there will be long ass queues. But don’t you worry, because it will be the most disciplined phenomenon you have ever witnessed. #AlcoholUnites
Getting High At The Highest Valleys: Ooty or Kodaikanal, when in Tamil Nadu, you are spoilt for choice. India’s prettiest hill stations are in TN, and you can avail delectable mutton and chicken dishes, which are basically soul food. You know what goes best with such days? Scotch Whisky and fresh nuts. Guess what’s easily available there? The very same stuff!
All aboard Chennai Express!
