An aprés ski bar or as us lowly people like to descibe it – a bar in a ski resort where you a chill after a day of rigorous snow activities, is a great place to unwind, but also enjoy scenic icy landscapes. Here are some of the world’s most beloved and popular boozy winter wonderlands.
Krazy Kanguruh, Austria
This bar in St Anton is owned by Olympic champion Mario Matt so you know there’s going to be some heavy duty sports but there’s also a LOT of drinking. 4 pm to 7 pm is reserved for partying, followed by a ski to town (be careful, not the best time to pass out).
Bar Gyu+, Japan
Based in Niseko, this one’s in the lower Harifu village where finding it in itself will be a task. But it’s going to be worth it. A Coca Cola vending machine doors opens into a posh bar with well-dressed waiters and premium liquor.
Hennu Stall, Switzerland
No one does snow and ski like Switzerland and they take it a notch higher in Zermatt. Once you’re done completing the Furi Zermatt run, party like the Swedes by having Jager shots down vintage 3-foot-long skis! You can choose to stick around outdoors, or head to the two-level indoors for some disco and karaoke.
The Snorting Elk Cellar, Washington D.C.
America knows how to ski and have fun while at it. It might seem weird to drink ice-cold draft beers after a long ski run in the snow but it’s surprisingly great! This Bavarian style lodge on Crystal Mountain has a lot to offer including 18 locally-crafted draft beers and several hot drinks. I’m heading there ASAP!
Rond Point, France
Located in Meribel, Rond Point is infamous for being one of the most fun snowy bars in the world and it gets even better on Thursday if The Guardian is to be believed. You’ll find a lot of youngsters downing drink after drink on the terrace to the tunes of a live band. Get some toffee vodka here for the best experience while enjoying the breathtaking view.
