After partying with a female trainee DJ at Bombay Cocktail Bar in Mumbai last month, I was looking forward to shaking a leg with more female DJs in the country. Thus started my search for music nights by female DJs in India. Here are 5 extremely talented queens of party beats you should definitely groove with whenever you get a chance.
1. DJ Rhea
DJ Rhea has already lit fires to the party scene in Bangalore. Now working as a freelancer, she travels all over the country for Bollywood music gigs. She has played at Marquis by Radisson Blu, Boomrang, Fandom at Gillys Redefined and XU in Bangalore, and Playboy, TAP, Kube and Snob in Mumbai. You can catch her in either Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Goa at her next gig – to do so, follow her on Instagram.
2. Tech Mystery aka DJ Khushi
DJ Khushi, also known as Tech Mystery, tried her hand at HR and modelling before finding her passion for DJing. Initially, she played at clubs in Mumbai and then went on to play at music festivals as she aced her EDM, Big Room and R&B music gigs. She has also been interviewed by DJane Mag to discuss her journey as a female DJ in India and also featured on the Top 20 Chart of DJane Mag India.
3. Seezi
DJ Seezi is the first Indian female trap and bass producer to be signed by an international record label. She went on to release her single ‘Remember’ thereafter. She started her career in DJing at the age of 18 by performing at college music events. Today, she travels all over the country to play EDM at college festivals.
4. Esha Das
DJ Esha has made quite a name for herself. She was the only female DJ to play at the Shiva Squad Music Festival in Manali in 2014. She was also featured in a short film by Bluestone which focuses on her journey as a female DJ in India. She plays EDM, Hip Hop and Bollywood at clubs and private events in the country.
5. Suparna
DJ Suparna comes from a family of singers; her mother and grandmother are established singers. She started DJing in Italy but returned to India to take her career further. She is known for her Psychedelic, Deep House and EDM music gigs in and around Kolkata. She travels all over the country to play at concerts, music festivals, corporate and private gigs, and fashion shows.
