Think about the moment you open a newspaper or scroll through social media and see news of an Indian whisky brand triumphing over global icons. How proud does that make you feel? Peter Scot Whisky has provided our country with many such proud moments, thanks to its exceptional blend, crafted in Bangalore since 1968. This historic Indian whisky brand, produced by Khoday India Limited, successfully emulated Scotch profiles, making the experience of enjoying Scotch whiskies accessible to everyone. Here’s more about the brand.
Peter Scot is known as one of India’s pioneering whisky brands. It was launched in 1968 by Khoday India Limited in Bangalore. The brand was positioned as a premium IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) blend that mimicked Scotch profiles. It built a very loyal base after it began its exports to Italy in 2007. This whisky was also praised against global icons in blind tests. It is known as one of the oldest surviving whiskies, which symbolizes bold branding.

Peter Scot Whisky was launched by Khoday India Limited (KIL) in Bangalore in May 1968. The company originally was a silk manufacturing family, which later diversified into spirits. This happened after India’s independence. The name Peter actually came from an employee named “Peter Warren” and the Scottish heritage with “Scot”.
The brand faced many legal battles with the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA). The legal battles began in 1986 over claims of the use of terminology. These battles ended only when the Supreme Court in 2008 allowed the company to retain its trademark.
This whisky was manufactured at KIL's Anjanapura facility near Bengaluru. The brand uses extra-neutral spirit from molasses, which is later blended with malt, which gives it its faux-Scotch profile. This helped them gain popularity as a premium IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) despite no Scottish ties.
Peter Scot Whisky offers an attractive golden amber hue with a very mellow texture, like premium Indian blends. It is known for its balance of molasses-neutral spirit sweetness against the subtle influences of malt.
The smell of this whisky reveals notes of honey, oak spice, caramel, vanilla, and dried fruits. It is also laced with cinnamon warmth. This brings an approachable Scotch-like taste without harsh burn.
On the palate, it is well-rounded with the sweetness of toffee, mild fruit notes, oak spice, and caramelized sugar. It offers an amazing mouthfeel, making it perfect for easy sipping neat or on rocks.
