Belgian Nuns Are Selling The World’s First Trappist Beer Shampoo

For craft beer lovers, things don’t get any older than the Westmalle Trappist Brewery. Started by monks, the place has been making top-class Belgian brews right from 1836. Fast forward 184 years and the beer made famous by Belgian monks is now a shampoo made by nuns.

Yes, you read that right. The Trappistines of the Abbey of Our Lady of Nazareth in Brecht, Belgium, have partnered with the monks at Abbey of Our Lady of the Holy Heart of Westmalle to produce the world’s first Trappist ale shampoo.

Calling it “the first hair care product made with a real Trappist beer”, the shampoo consists of 10% Westmalle Dubbel beer. Its light scent will ensure that nobody gets a sniff of the beer on your scalp.

And don’t be surprised by this latest venture by the nuns. They’ve been known for their selling and marketing masterclass as they’ve sold soaps and detergents foams for close to six decades now. Having decided to reinvent themselves and give beer a new twist, change has indeed been good for these sisters.

One can either get their hands on the shampoo by paying a visit to them personally at their store or by ordering online. A 33cl bottle will set you back by $10 or 8.9 euros.

Hair and dandruff, you say? I’m sure you’ll be having ‘nun’ of it.
